ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Albuquerque police on Saturday arrested a man who allegedly stabbed another passenger and security guard on a commuter rail train and injured an additional passenger, police said.

Two people stabbed were taken to a hospital, one in critical condition, police said in statement.

It wasn’t clear whether the person in critical condition was the security guard or the female passenger who was stabbed, and police spokesperson Rebecca Atkins did not immediately respond to a request for clarification and additional information.

Another female passenger person was slashed on a shoulder and went with family to seek medical attention, the police statement said.

According to the statement, the incident began as the man “was making passengers uneasy by his behavior” as the train traveled between stations, the statement said.

The man “wanted to get off the train,” and he stabbed the guard attempting to escort him off at the Montano Transit Center station north of downtown Albuquerque, the statement said. “The offender then proceeded to stab a female passenger and then slashed another female passenger on her shoulder.”

Officers arrested the man a short time later, the statement said.

The man was arrested after he got off the train and ran down the train tracks, KOAT-TV reported.

No identities were released, and no additional information was immediately available.

The incident occurred on a train operated by the Rail Runner service that connects metro Albuquerque and Belen.
