MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Four visitor centers across Vermont are honoring the state’s fallen military veterans with a new display.

The ‘Vermont Remembers: Fallen Heroes Memorial’ was a collaboration between the Office of Veteran Affairs, the Department of Buildings and General Services and Shadows & Light Design, officials said.

The new two-panel displays with photos of fallen veterans have been installed at visitor centers in Williston North, Williston South, Fair Haven and Sharon. Four more installations are expected to go up in the spring at visitor centers in Bennington, Guilford, Waterford and Bradford.

“It’s a memorial to those fallen service members and it’s our dedication that they be remembered for their sacrifice, their service, their families sacrifice and what their families went through as they served,” Robert Burke at the Office of Veterans Affairs told WPTZ-TV.

The display is designed to encourage travelers to learn more of Vermont’s history while also preserving the stories of the state’s fallen heroes. Visitors can also use their smart phones to scan QR codes to read short biographies of each fallen hero, Burke told WCAX-TV.
